Luanda hosts from June 18th to 21st the second meeting of the African National Commissions for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Under the theme "Education and culture as drivers of development in Africa," this meeting aims to discuss UNESCO's basic program for the continent, called "Africa Priority 2022-2029," prepared by the member states and the African Union.

According to the permanent secretary of the Angolan National Commission for UNESCO, Alexandre de Sousa Costa, the Africa Priority Program 2022-2029, launched during the first meeting held two years ago in Ghana, defines UNESCO's overall strategy for the African continent in areas of organization activity such as education, science, culture, communication, justice, environment, and human rights, as reported by the Angolan press agency.

This program encompasses other interdisciplinary areas that the national commissions of member states, as connecting bodies of the parent organization, will be responsible for implementing in their countries.

Angola will present the Regional Operational Plan (ROP) and hopes that the document, designed by the Angolan National Commission for UNESCO, will be approved and adopted as a guiding instrument at the continental level.

The first meeting of the African National Commissions for UNESCO took place in Ghana, from September 18th to 22nd, 2022, and served to initiate the discussion on the Africa Priority Program 2022-2029
