The Spanish Civil Guard intercepted, thanks to the General Directorate of Surveillance of the Moroccan Territory, on the coast of Gran Canaria, a rubber boat that had departed from Morocco with 2,345 kilograms of hashish on board. During this operation, the security service detained the two crew members, aged 26 and 36, accused of committing a crime against public health. The accused were placed in provisional detention by order of the competent judge

Agents from the Judicial Police Unit and the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas participated in this police operation, which took place by land and sea.

The location of the narco-boat was made possible thanks to cooperation with the General Directorate of Surveillance of the Moroccan Territory (DGST), which had warned of the arrival of a boat from Morocco on the shores of Gran Canaria, attempting to introduce drugs onto the island.

The police coordination between maritime and land forces allowed for the detection of a small boat sailing without lights near the coast.

Suspecting it was the vessel in question, the civil guards of the maritime service aboard the Rio Tambre patrol boat approached and found it to be a rubber boat carrying numerous bales, typically used for drug transportation from Morocco to Spain.

Their intervention led to the seizure of 66 bundles of hashish, weighing more than 2,300 kilograms, and the arrest of its two pilots, the armed forces reported in a statement.

The seven-meter rubber boat in which they were sailing, equipped with two outboard motors, a satellite phone, two GPS devices, and several mobile phones, was confiscated during this operation.

The procedure carried out by the team combating organized crime and narcotics of Las Palmas, as well as the detainees, were handed over to the first investigating court, and they were placed in provisional detention.
